about us - our beginnings...

Many, many years ago, Michelle started to brainstorm ideas for a
business she would someday launch. At a very early age she
already had the entrepreneurial spirit as she sat on the curb
selling lemonade. As Michelle got older she dabbled in
businesses ranging from wedding cake design to wall paper
installation, but nothing stuck. She kept her 9-5 job and was
bored silly.
Michelle was born and raised in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania with her
younger sister, Karen and two older brothers, Bill and Pete.
Diligence, hard work and the importance of family above all else
were core values she learned as a child. She has carried those
values throughout her life and into her business pursuits. She
learned to sew at a very young age, making everything from doll
clothes to bridesmaid's dresses. She knew that someday her love
for sewing would turn into a business.
Finally in 2003, Michelle took the leap and started her own
company, Willow Creek Baby. She started sewing vintage
inspired patchwork baby blankets and hit the road selling them.
After the birth of her son, Ryan, in 2004, she was inspired to
make her first memory blanket. She was packing up his outgrown
clothing when she realized that she could not put the lid on the
box, instead she wanted to reminisce over each piece of clothing.
Then it came to her. Why not use his clothing to make a blanket
that could hold those childhood memories for a lifetime? At that
moment, on the bedroom floor, she cut his tiny clothing into
squares and created the first memory blanket.
Her company became an overnight success when her memory
blankets were featured in CHILD Magazine. Since then Willow
Creek Baby blankets have graced the pages of numerous
publications and have even fallen into the hands of celebrity
parents, Jessica & Jerry Seinfeld.
In 2007, sister, Karen finally got the entrepreneurial itch after she
gave birth to her second little girl. She quit her 9-5 job and came
on board to help launch a new line of tote bags. While searching
for new and unique fabrics for the totes, the sisters stumbled
upon a pile of Karen's husband's old Army fatigues and the first
Military Tote was created using recycled military uniforms. In no
time at all, the Military Tote was the talk of the town.
In July of 2008, Willow Creek Baby became Willow Creek Studio.
The name Willow Creek Studio reflects how the company has
evolved since inception in 2003. The company has expanded
their offerings beyond their popular line of baby memory blankets
and now provides products for the entire family.
